After decades of being allies, the Philippines have officially separated itself from the USA.
Philippines' President Rodrigo Duterte declared his "separation" from the United States during a visit to Beijing on Thursday, as he rebalances his country's diplomacy towards China.
Standing before a packed house in the capital of China, Beijing Duterte stated,
"I announce my separation from the United States."
He goes on to say,
"America does not control our lives. Enough bullshit," and added,
"How can you be the most powerful industrial country when you owe China and you are not paying it?"
The most interesting part of Duterte's speech was his comments made on Russia and it's dictator Vladimir Putin,
"And maybe i'll go to Russia and talk to Putin and tell him there's three of us against the world - China, Philippines and Russia."
Tension has been brewing for some time now and can be traced back to when Duterte insulted US Ambassador to the Philippines Phillip Goldberg by calling him a "gay son of a bitch."
There's no telling what Duterte's next move or moves will be or how this will impact US relations with both Philippines and China.
